At first glance, this place seemed like a nice local establishment that prides itself on its whitefish and all you can eat crab legs. The homemade cornbread served complimentarily prior to the entrée was the best part of the entire meal. The fries were sub par and a step up from McDonald's. There were strange substitution charges for things like mediocre coleslaw for a side salad that was drowning in dressing. And while the menu boasts a "substantial portion" of whitefish on its whitefish sandwich, mine was a small fillet on a strange tasting bun. Make sure to do your research before falling prey to tourist trap restaurants in the Mackinaw City area.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. We had all you can eat crab legs, Hen on the Woods (grilled chicken breast), and smoked pork chops. Yummy place to eat!

This is one place that may be good food but from the minute we came in we were treated terrible.. The host, Vern, was stressed and showed it- even expressed it telling us it would be a while though we could see tables were available. It took over 15 minutes for them just to come and get our drink order - waitress came back in another 15 minutes saying she didn't know where the bar tender was so would take our order - food came in another long wait - the food was good but then after over 2 hours we wanted to get the bill - took another 20 minutes - Staff was very put out with us for wanting them to hurry up so we could get the kids to bed. Not family friendly or accommodating - would not recommend it

Crab Legs!!! We heard from our friends that this place has all-you-can-eat crab legs (snow) every night for $28.95. I can eat a lot fo crab legs :) So we took our friends back to Blue Water Grill and 3 of us had crab legs. Very good. I'd even go back to this place for other menu items. The owner told us about their smoked and their stuffed pork chops. They sounded amazing. If you're in the Mackinaw City / St. Ignace area and you like crab legs - try Blue Water Grill.

I've never written a review before, but after visiting this restaurant, I decided to make this my first. To make a long story short, my husband and I visited the Blue Water Grill after a huge mix up with our hotel which resulted in our hotel room being given away (BEWARE: DO NOT RESERVE ROOMS AT THE HAMILTON INN SELECT BEACHFRONT!). We had travelled form DC and were exhausted and hungry. The food and selection were good, but the thing that stood out the most was the excellent customer service. Our server, Dee, noticed right away that we were having a hard day, and provided quick and amazing service. It is rare to feel like a regular while on vacation, but Dee made us feel so comfortable after a hard situation. Definitely make time to visit the Blue Water Grill, and make sure to ask for Dee!

Came here a bit late on a Saturday night and had the steak which comes with either coleslaw or tossed salad and a baked potato or fries. The steak was tender and delicious. The corn bread was warm and soft, and especially delightful when dipped in the honey which is made by the owner and available for sale. Waitress was super friendly (and gave us that tip about the honey) as were all the staff. Ended up having a great meal and bought a bottle of honey for myself!

Most of the restaurants in Mackinac City are typical tourist traps with sub-standard food. Blue Water Grill & Bar is a standout in that the food and service was the worst I've ever had in the entire city. The food took forever to come out. When it came out it looked just like it was - tired, fried food. It was so bad that all 4 in our party barely ate half of their orders. I won't call it food. I could go on for hours about how bad this place is, but it would never cover it completely. We were struggling and scratching at our glovebox when we got back to the car for a pack of gum to help get rid of the flavors that were left within our mouths. The server was actually kind and did eventually come back and ask us if everything was o.k., but it was pointless to say anything other than "yep." You can tell that this place relies solely on tourists, without any history with this establishment, for their revenue. They are unsuspecting and in a "happy" mood when they arrive. This leads them to think the food tastes better than it is. It is horrible. The other servers walked around with their shoulders hanging low, un-enthusiastically delivering food to tables out of time. Our server could have earned the owner of this place at least $10.00 more in revenue from me alone if she would have simply asked if I wanted another drink when mine was a half hour old. If you are in Mackinac City and looking for a place to eat - DO NOT EAT HERE. You will thank me. Or you will say, through a pall of greasy, salty aftertaste - "I should have listened to that review, that was awful." I wish I could pick a negative star rating.

Stopped here on way back from Buffalo, via Canada. Fantastic waitress.....Pat! Wife & I wanted to split salad wedge. Have a look at pic. She totally accommodated by doing it for us. None of the usual silly stuff....she took charge, as a true server should! I had spag/2 meatballs & she had trout special. Excellent food, ate outside, go there!

What a find! Food was great--fresh trout! Melted in your mouth. Service was very good--wish there was one of these placed back home! Dee was our waitress--what a sweetie! She was very efficient, friendly, and helpful. If you are in this area--gotta check this place out!

Dee is great. Friendly restaurant, reasonable prices, nice interior, vegetarians are welcome. One of us had a terrific grilled lake trout. Well worth the visit.

So the menu said "It's like fishing... It may take awhile to get a bite, but once you do you're hooked." We thought this was just a cute saying but it turns out it's actually true. We (myself, the hubs, my bff, my mom, and her bff) went in for dinner on a Saturday night. We were prepared for it to be busy (it was a Saturday night, and it is a tourist town), but we got seated within 5 minutes of arrival. The waitress was a little short with us while taking drink orders, and throughout the night complained about other tables, being the only one doing anything, etc. and I do mean throughout the night.. From the time we were seated until the time we walked to the car was almost 2.5 hours. The food: eh. Everyone at the table said they'd had better. (Moms bff liked her fish, that was about it.) My bff is vegan, and they had very little selection for her: the veggie burger is made with eggs, and no wheat bread. She ended up ordering spaghetti from the kids menu. I had the wedge salad. Not bad, not great. The waitress brought me the wrong dressing, but we waited so long on our food I just wanted to eat. I asked for a refill on my soda and she took my cup and forgot it when she returned to the table with a water refill. After we finally finished eating it took 20+ minutes to get our checks. I will note- not everyone had the same experience as us. All of the other outside tables ate and left before we did.

Great pizza! Recommended by someone on the ferry to Macinac Island and it didn't disappoint. Homemade Ranch dressing was a winner too!

The salad was iceberg lettuce with old veggies, the waffle fries were cold and under cooked, the cheese on pub chips was congealed, and the burger was dry and lacked any flavor. Worst of all at 10:30 on a Friday night we were told to be quiet while sitting at the bar. (We had a meal with apps, entrees in the dining room and retired to the bar to finish our mediocre wine) The staff was rude and crass. I've been spoken to with more respect at the US Post Office.

Out of 2 specials at 6:30. Waitress forgot we were there. Can't comment on the food as we didn't stay

Ate here for the second time last night and honestly it will be my last. Ordered my steak medium rare. First steak I received was well done so I sent it back. Second steak came out cooked the same way, so I sent it back too. Then the chef came out of the kitchen and told me he was "out" of steaks and could not cook me another one. What the heck! Never heard that before!! On the positive side, our waiter was very apologetic and my mixed drink was fantastic. My husband and I spend a lot eating out when we travel and it looks like Blue Water won't be visited again.

We came here for dinner on a Saturday night on the recommendation of our hotel concierge. The place was packed. The menu was rather pricey for what was offered. There was standard fare of fish, pizza, pasta dishes, and steaks. Overall, I just was not impressed with the selection. The food quality was average and not a very good value in terms of your dollar. On a brighter note, these guys have the best wait staff and service that I have seen in the greater Mackinaw area. Kudos to Dee and her associates for stellar service!
